Hawai’i is one of only five US states that does not have its own state lottery. The state also has extremely strict gambling laws. There are no casinos. However, Hawai’i also is one of the few US states to not allocate any funding to helping problem gambling. Additionally, so many Hawaiian residents visit Nevada to gamble, it’s been nicknamed “the ninth island.”
